What to Wear to Spring Training in Dunedin (and What to Pack)

What to Wear to Spring Training in Dunedin (and What to Pack)

Packing for Spring Training in Dunedin sounds easy—Florida, sunshine, baseball… throw in a few cute outfits and go, right? Not exactly.

If you’re looking for real outfit ideas that actually work for a full day of walking, games, and going out after—this is exactly what I’ve figured out (and what I’d do differently next time).

Yes, the days can be hot (like, really hot when you’re sitting in the sun or walking around the ballpark), but if the clouds roll in or the sun dips, it cools off fast. And that’s the part I completely underestimated. I didn’t bring a single pair of pants on my trip… and I regretted it more than once.

You’re also on your feet a lot, moving from morning breakfast to the game and then straight into dinner, so you want outfits that are comfortable but still feel put together. It’s a bit of a balancing act—and one I definitely learned the hard way.

Day Game Outfit

Day games are honestly hotter than you expect. You’re often sitting in direct sun with very little shade, so lightweight, breathable pieces are key.

I leaned into easy, airy outfits that kept me cool but still felt cute for photos and walking around.

Outfit formulas:

Lightweight pants + tank + sneakers (cooler/overcast days)

Linen shorts + tank + sneakers

Skort + fitted tee + crossbody bag

Linen set (shorts + button-up) + sandals

For tops, I love grabbing something from the team store when I get there. Spring Training merch is great—lots of relaxed tanks and tees for both men and women, and it just feels more fun to wear something from the game you’re at.

Shoes matter more than you think because you’re walking a lot. I stuck with my comfortable Adidas sneakers most days, but an easy sandal works too if it’s really hot. Add sunglasses (non-negotiable), and you’re set.

Day games feel hotter than you expect, there isn’t a lot of shade—dress for full sun.

Breakfast -> Game → Dinner Outfit

This is honestly how most of our days looked—breakfast in the morning, straight to the game, and then right out for dinner after. No time (and no desire) to go back and change, so your outfit has to do it all.

I found myself reaching for pieces that were easy but still felt put together. A great go-to is lightweight skort or shorts with a simple tank, and a linen button up blouse or cardigan —something breathable enough for the heat, but that still looks good sitting down at dinner later.

Outfit formulas:

  • Lightweight midi dress + sneakers
  • Skort + tank + linen button-up + sandals
  • Easy dress + light jacket (for evening) + sneakers
  • Linen pants (what I wish I packed) + tank + sandals

Shoes are key here too. You want something you can walk in all day but still feel good wearing out—clean sneakers were my go-to, but a slightly elevated sandal works just as well.

Add a pair of sunglasses, a crossbody bag, and you’re done. Effortless, comfortable, and still feels like you made an effort (without actually trying too hard).

Walking Around Outfit

This is the outfit you’ll wear more than anything else. The “we’re just heading out for a bit” outfit that somehow turns into walking all day, popping into shops, grabbing a drink, and then realizing you’ve done 15,000 steps.

Outfit formulas:

  • Relaxed shorts + tank + oversized button-up + sneakers
  • Skort + tee + sneakers + baseball cap
  • Linen pants + tank + sandals (ideal for cooler days)
  • Athletic dress + sneakers + crossbody

Shoes are key here—this is not the time to test anything new.

Finish it off with sunglasses, a hat if you’re in the sun, and a crossbody bag so you’re hands-free all day. Easy, comfortable, and still cute enough that you don’t feel like you’re in just “throw on” clothes.

Evenings Outfit

Nights are where the temperature shift really hits. During the day you’re hot, but once the sun goes down (or if it’s even a little overcast), it cools off fast. This is exactly where I wished I had packed pants.

I went into the trip thinking “Florida = heat,” so I packed accordingly… but sitting through a full evening on a beach bar patio without a layer or longer bottoms was not the move.

If you’re heading out for the evening —this is where you want something a little more covered, but still easy and comfortable.

Outfit formulas:

  • Lightweight trousers + tank + light jacket + sneakers
  • Jeans + tee + linen button-up + sneakers
  • Midi dress + light sweater or jacket + sandals
  • Skort + long sleeve tee + sneakers

This is the one outfit where I’d say: don’t skip the pants and the light layer. Even one pair would’ve made such a difference.

Looking back I definitely overthought some things and completely missed others. But that is part of the fun and now I know what works so I wanted to share them with you. If you’re heading to Spring Training, hopefully this gives you some ideas to feel comfortable, stylish, and ready for all the photo moments.

Most importantly have fun!
